![]() ![]() The main reason you would try to make an intentionally bad movie is to make money. ![]() I think you have to ask, what's really more likely here? Has Neil Breen played up the bad aspects of his work? Or is he just plugging away, making the same types of movies he always does? I don’t know which one is the case and I also don’t know which would be more interesting.Įither way, I plan to watch the rest of his movies as soon as I can so I suppose he has succeeded in winning me over. The alternative is that Breen is truly delusional and has convinced himself that his cult following is a reflection of his great talents. If Neil Breen is purposefully making these films to feel like sincere and honest stories that he wants to tell, he’s doing great work because it feels real to me, it doesn’t feel like he’s in on the joke and laughing at himself at this point in his career, which is not the case with Tommy who clearly understands his status as a memed filmmaker at this point and is attempting to lean into it in the least subtle way possible. It’s really difficult for me to tell but if Breen is self aware to a degree, he’s doing an amazing job of continuing to act as if he believes he’s a serious filmmaker with something to say. Breen comes off as so self righteous and delusional, it seems like he believes he’s doing something incredibly profound with his stories but they flop in every regard except unintended humor.īut is it unintended? I can’t believe after 5 feature length movies that he doesn’t know how his audiences are watching his work 100% ironically. They are all hilariously bad on every level. So far, I have seen Fateful Findings, Double Down, and I Am Here. They’re prime “so bad it’s good” material. Neil Breen on the other hand has been a joke for quite some time and yet all of his films have maintained their horribly pretentious, awfully acted, edited, shot quality. It’s been noted in the anticipation building up for Tommy Wiseau’s new film, Big Shark, that he has become less funny and entertaining since The Room because he is now in on the joke and purposefully making bad films, which fails to capture the genuine sincerity and commitment to a complete failure that we saw in his debut. ![]()
